The "Lingvo Master.uz 2008", annual linguistic tournament for gifted students of Uzbekistan took place in information resource center of the Youth Initiatives Center "Kelajak ovozi". Fifty students from five higher educational institutions participated in it. The project was developed by Bobur Nazarmuhamedov, leader of the International Youth Commonwealth group of translators of the "Kelajak ovozi" Youth Initiatives Center. It was organized by the "Forum of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan" Foundation and "Kelajak ovozi" Youth Initiatives Center and supported by the Uzbek (Uzbekistan Visa) Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education and British Council in Uzbekistan.

"The tournament provides students of various higher educational establishments with an opportunity to show their knowledge of foreign language," Bobur Nazarmuhamedov noted. Uzbekistan Visa Support and Uzbekistan Hotels Reservation."The tournament aims to involve the youth in learning of foreign language and advance skills of young translators. An experience shows that the tournament helps to develop national cultural and educational potential of the youth, to activate their scientific researches in linguistics and promote English language learning."

Students from five Uzbek (Uzbekistan Visa) higher educational institutions: National University of Uzbekistan, Uzbek (Uzbekistan Visa) State World Languages University, University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Tashkent (Uzbekistan Tours) State Institute of Oriental Studies and Tashkent (Uzbekistan Tours) State Pedagogical Universitytook part in it. Each higher educational establishment sent its team of ten representatives. The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) specialists from British Council were involved to estimate knowledge of participants. On the first stage all the teams made a presentation on their higher educational institutions and introduced their teammates in English. Then they demonstrated home task of telling about an Uzbek (Uzbekistan Visa) national tradition in English. Afterwards, competitors passed English reading exam, focusing on the IELTS reading comprehension test.

The second stage included translation of pieces of fiction and technical, economic and medical texts as well as writing test. The third stage tested the competitors as interpreters for the Uzbek (Uzbekistan Visa) State Arts Museum. The final step also tested their listening ability.

After all three stages, the winners were found: Husniddin Ochilov from University of World Economy and Diplomacy won the grand prix. The winner was awarded 50,000 soums, permission card for summer training camp of the "Kelajak ovozi" Youth Initiatives Center and books from the British Council in Uzbekistan.

The team of University of World Economy and Diplomacy was awarded a first grade diploma, permission card for summer training camp of the "Kelajak ovozi" Youth Initiatives Center and books from the British Council. A team of Uzbek (Uzbekistan Visa) State World Languages University was awarded a second grade diploma, bonus for bowling and books from the British Council.

The team of National University of Uzbekistan won the third grade diploma and books from the British Council. The teams of Tashkent (Uzbekistan Tours) State Institute of Oriental Studies and Tashkent (Uzbekistan Tours) State Pedagogical University were given certificates for their active participation in the tournament.

All competitors were offered presents and prizes by representatives of the "Forum of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan" Foundation. The event showed initiative of the talented youth, as a result, jury decided to hold the republican Lingvo Master.uz in all higher educational institutions next year.
