More Unique Than Any Other Place Find Out about Uzbekistan via Uzbekistan Tours

When compared to all other areas in Asia and Europe, Uzbekistan remains one of the most unique and different places to visit. It is nothing like any other place in the world owing to the rich confluence of cultures and communities. With over 100 ethnic communities living here and a rich history of its own, Uzbekistan tours give you a sneak inside peek at the heart of the area, its people, foods and culture.

Tea Drinking

Tea holds a very important place in Uzbek tradition and customs. In fact, it is almost revered, so much so, that even guests are served hot green tea as soon as they arrive. This, accompanied with bread, samsa, fried foods, halva etc. forms the major part of the average Uzbek’s cuisine. Most people prefer green tea although in the Tashkent hotels you might find a stronger preference towards black tea. Both types of teas are served without sugar or milk as that is how the locals prefer drinking tea. The tea tradition takes its origins from oriental cultural influences in Uzbekistan. In fact, the teahouse, also called ‘choyhona’ is a critical place in Uzbek society as it is here that men gather for social interaction and bonding. These tea houses are characterized by low tables, beds covered with gorgeous carpets and robed men eating sumptuous fare like kebabs, palov as well as many cups of green tea!

Best of Cultures

The reason Uzbekistan is considered to be so unique compared to most other places, is because it takes the best of various cultures such as Tatar, Russian, Korean, Dungan, Tajik, German etc. However, the main influence is of Russian communities and you find that reflected in the cuisines as well. For example, borsh, which is a traditional beetroot soup, beef steak or entrecote, grilled and cutlet meat balls, Pel’meni, which is strikingly similar to ravioli and much more. Thus, if you have opted for any of the Uzbekistan tours, make sure to sample some of the fabulous meals offered at Uzbek hotels.

Embroidery

The women of Uzbekistan have an artistic bent of mind. Most women here know the fine art of embroidery, which comprises ornamental embroidery on beautiful ceilings, household articles as well as festive and daily clothing. Major embroidery centers have always been cities like Tashkent, Bukhara, Samarkand etc. and even some of the Samarkand hotels display exquisite ornamental embroidered ceilings. Robes of extremely high values used to be presented at the Emir’s court and the embroidery was done on chamois leather, velvet, wool etc. Very rarely one would see embroidery being done over silk. The strange thing is that gold embroidery is done solely by the men in Uzbekistan because it was believed in the earlier days that if women touched the gold thread, it would turn to black. Silk weaving forms an intrinsic part of the Uzbek economy. Handmade cotton both patterned as well as plain and silk, semi-silk clothing was made with delicate interfacing.
