ISTANBUL - Turkish transportation minister addressed on Friday an international conference on road transportation, calling for efforts to revive an ancient trade route between East and the West. "We should re-built the historical Silk Road, which had been a route for commerce and tourism for centuries, to meet transportation needs of the boosting trade between the East and the West," Binali Yildirim told the 31st World Congress of the International Road Transport Union in Istanbul.
Yildirim said international non-governmental organizations, state ministers and their deputies had made much valued contributions to the regional and global efforts for the revival of the Silk Road, adding that these contributions were brought together in a declaration.
"We have all agreed that there is a need for integration between all sorts of means of transportation and we have to improve the integration ... to provide continuity and competition," Yildirim said.
