US Senate evinces serious attention to the problem of Silk Road revival. In his time, senator Sam Brownback from Kansas submitted to the US Senate, as an amendment to the "Foreign Assistance Act of 1961" a Bill "The Silk Road Strategy Act of 1999". This document was approved by the American Congress in July 1999. Mentioned Bill especially interesting because a great attention in it is paid to the economic and political independence of the countries, located on the Silk Road.
On October 27, 1999, the Subcommittee for the facilitation of the International Economic Policy Export and Trade of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee held the second reading of the project.
Inclusion in the program of the US hearing discussion of the project on the strategy on the Great Silk Road is an evidence that this ancient trade arterial road which for many years connected East and West and nowadays is an important Eurasian road especially for such countries as Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tadjikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.
Applying to the US Asia Society, senator Sam Brownback said: "The Caspian basin countries and bordering countries of Central Asia and South Caucasus for the US are the main factor of economic, social and political concernment in this zone. Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tadjikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are at the intersection of principal forces of today`s world: they are rich in natural resources and are looking to the cooperation with the United States. Suffice it to say that the Caspian region holds third position in the world in terms of oil and gas resources- after the Middle East and Russia, the value of these resources exceeds USD 4 trillion. The task of the United States in this region is to secure stability, independence, economic vitality and political sovereignty. It coincides with the vital interests of the US.
