An unusual caravan of 100 classic cars of world brands within one month has crossed two continents following the trails of the famous Great Silk Road. This Amsterdam-Beijing Rally has become the most grandiose and exciting event in the history of classic cars. Having taken the start on the Dam Square in Amsterdam on July 15th, the unique auto caravan drove through the territory of 14 countries: the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and China. On August 13th, after covering more than 17,500 kilometres, it reached the Square of Tiananmen in Beijing, its ultimate destination. Amsterdam-Beijing Classic Car Endurance Rally has become a remarkable event not only for its participants. Along the Silk Road, which for millenniums connected East and West, on horses and camels the merchants carried their goods; its trails were trodden by numerous travelers and missionaries. This ancient transnational arterial road played an important role in the development of human civilization. And now, for the first time ever, the routes of the Great Silk Road have been followed by the caravan of classic cars. This fact is a vivid evidence of great significance of this ancient highway in the history of mankind and the grandeur of international programme on revival of the Great Silk Road. The age of the cars participating in the Rally averaged 50 years. But they were driven by experienced drivers – the owners of classic cars who were determined to try themselves and their “iron companion” for endurance in this significant and one of the most thrilling events in the history of classic cars.
