In the City of Maebashi (Japan) there was held a research conference under the title "The 21st century: The past and the present of the Great Silk Road". The conference was chaired by a well-known scientist Professor Kudzu Kato.
For more than 30 years Professor Kato has worked as the head of Uzbek-Japanese International archeological expedition in Surkhandarya Province of Uzbekistan. He is the author of such popular scientific books as "On the crossroads of the Great Silk Road", "The journey across the Eurasian civilization", "The outstanding people of Central Asia", "The antiquities of Southern Uzbekistan" and some other scientific works.
The Conference was organized by "Uzbekistan Culture and Arts Forum" Foundation together with Maebashi City administration and Eurasian Club of Gunma Prefecture with assistance of Embassy of Uzbekistan in Japan. The Conference provided a unique opportunity for the Japanese public to familiarize themselves with history and culture of Uzbekistan and it testified to the historical contacts between Uzbekistan and Japan on the Great Silk Road.
More than 100 prominent representatives of academic circles of Japan, the authorities from Maebashi City administration and Gunma Prefecture, members of Uzbekistan-Japan Friendship associations and societies, as well as mass media representatives took part in the work of the Conference.
The Conference logically followed up the activities of "Uzbekistan Culture and Arts Forum" Foundation in Japan which were devoted to Great Silk Road and aimed at representing Uzbekistan's culture and art in Japan. Recently this Foundation organized a large-scale art exhibition "The Heritage of the Great Silk Road" in the State Art Museum in Hatodate, the city in Hokkaido Prefecture.
