An idea of the Silk Road revival - this ancient transcontinental trade arterial road, which for long centuries connected East and West is already realized in many real deeds. World Tourism Organization (WTO) plays an important role in this process. Having supported the conception of the Silk Road revival, submitted by UN during the General Assembly in 1993, WTO worked out a long-term tourists` project "The Great Silk Road" which is put into practice little by little. With the purpose of unification all the countries, organizations and private persons interested in turning the ancient caravan route into important channel of international communication, including the sphere of tourism. WTO jointly with UNESCO held in 1994 in Uzbekistan an international seminar and during the out session in the ancient Samarkand a really historical Samarkand declaration was accepted by the nineteen countries -participants.
For the past years, a whole series of international forums, meetings and fairs with the participation of a large number travel industry representatives as well as the state authorities of the Silk Road countries were held on the initiative of World Tourism Organization. A special attention WTO pays to the development of the Great Silk Road as a tourist route and marketing strategy.
It is necessary to point out that our The Great Silk Road Tour Operators Group- makes its ponderable contribution to realization of WTO general program on the revival of the Great Silk Road.
