In Madrid on its seventieth session, the Executive council of the World tourist organization "took into account the offer of Uzbekistan`s government on placement in Samarkand the International Bureau on the development of Tourism along the Silk Road and providing its functioning".
In WTO leaders` opinion, this offer will be approved during the regular forthcoming fifteenth session of General assembly of this organization in October this year in China, that undoubtedly will be the most important step in realization of this unique project.
Samarkand not accidentally has been chosen by international tourist society as a place for creation of the center on coordination of efforts of the countries located on this ancient trade arterial road. In 1994 during the First WTO session "Tourism on Silk Road", which was held in Uzbekistan, the Samarkand Declaration on development of tourism on this ancient transcontinental arterial road was taken. At that time Samarkand was called "heart of the Great Silk Road".
As it is planned, The International Bureau on Silk Road in Samarkand will be working in close co-operation with a coordinator of the project "Silk Road" and representative of WTO for Europe Mr. Kabrini. The Samarkand bureau will be carrying out intercommunication and regional co-operation of Silk Road countries in the sphere of tourism development, facilitate joint participation of these states on tourist fairs, conduct other events aimed at developing of tourist product "Silk Road".
