DAY 1

Almaty (Kazakhstan)

Flight to Tashkent by HY- 
Arrival at
Arrival Meeting at the airport of Tashkent by English speaking guide. Transfer to hotel, check in at 12:00 and rest after the flight.

DAY 2

Almaty

Breakfast
Your guide will pick you up at International Airport and accompany you to Almaty City. Today we will have a city tour. You will get acquainted with Almaty's history and see the Ascension Cathedral – the second highest wooden building in the world. Then you will visit the Square of 28 Panfilov Heroes. Afterwards you will visit the Museum of Musical Instruments. After lunch we will drive to the “Hawks nursery”. There you will see many birds of prey. At this place people train hawks, eagles, golden eagles to hunt together with them. In the evening drive to Kok Tebe to see the panorama view of Almaty.

DAY 3

 

Almaty- Big Almaty Lake – Almaty-
Baku (Azerbaijan)

In the morning we start our excursion to
Big Almaty Lake located 20 km south of Almaty.
Big Almaty Lake is especially beautiful in the morning, when its blue surface mirrors the sky and surrounding mountains. Kazakh name of this lake is Zhasylkol, which means "Blue Lake". It is situated in the middle of canyon of the same name, on the altitude of 2511 meters. The depth of the lake is 35 meters, length is about 1 kilometer, and width is up to 500 meters. In summer the water temperature is 10-12 degrees centigrade. From the lakeside opens fascinating view of the nearby peaks: Sovetov and Ozernaya - to the south, cliffy massif of Bolshoy Almatinskiy peak - to the west. The lake is used as natural water reservoir.

DAY 4

Baku, Old City and Absheron peninsula

After Late breakfast View of Baku city, its harbor and the boulevard zone from Martyr’s Lane (a memorial park located on one of highest hill of the city) for better orientation within the upcoming tour days.
Walking tour in the Old City of Baku (classified as World Heritage Site by UNESCO since year 2000). Main sites of this tourare the Shirvanshahs Palace (15th century) and Maiden Tower (12th century). A number of other historical sites (the DoubleGates, old bath houses, old mosques and caravanserais and etc.) are also located on this route.
Trip to Absheron Peninsula: Located in Surakhani district of Baku, “Ateshgah” is an ancient religious temple offire worshipers built in 17th century. Many foreign travelers and historians have described this castle-like place. It is one of the sacred places Zoroastrians (fire worshipers) used to visit and still do during their pilgrimage.
Yanardag. Translated from Azerbaijani language as “Burning Mountain”, Yanardag is a continuously flaming hill, which justasAteshgah is another sight worth visiting. Hydrocarbon gases coming out from below the surface cause Yanardagfire, height of which varies from 1 to 10 meters at different times. It is never extinguished, neither in snow nor in rain.

DAY 5

Gobustan – Mereze – Shamakhi – Sheki

About 60 km (southern direction) away from the capital city – Baku, there is another UNESCO World Heritage Site, which will take you back to the years of first humans inhabiting our planet. Gobustan National Park preserved more than 6.000rock engravings for us, which are dating back between 5.000 – 40.000 years. These engravings cover hunting scenes, men, animals, boats and much more.
One the way from Gobustan, we will stop by Bibi-Heybat mosque which is a recreation of a mosque built in 13th century andis one of the most visited shrines of Baku. Its main yard is another site worth mentioning as from this very angle we are goingsee another very old onshore oil field of Absheron peninsula.
Visiting Diribaba Mausoleum (15th century), is a shrine partly built and partly carved on a huge cliff. It located in Merezedistrict, which is 110 km away from Baku.
Juma-Mosque (Friday Mosque) of Shamakhi city (120 km away from Baku) is the second earliest mosque built in Caucasus(year 743-744). As a result of serious damages and demolitions caused by earthquakes and battles, this mosque was reconstructed several times.
Seven Domes is complex of tombs built for Shirvan’s royal family in 18th century. Though only three of these domes survived damages caused by earthquakes. This terrain offers a good view of Shamakhi city too.

DAY 6

Sheki – Kish – Lagodekhi– Bodbe –Sighnaghi (Georgia)

Sheki Khan’s Palace is one of the major historical sites in Azerbaijan. Built in late 18th century as a summer palace, it is the only remaining structure from the larger splendid complex once surrounded by the fortress walls. Among its main attractions are the outstanding drawings and stained-glass windows, which are assembled as a puzzle without a single nail or usage of glue. One square meter of this artwork consists of 4.000 small parts and can range up to 14.000 in more complicated styles.
Nearby the Khans Palace, we will have a chance to meet the people who still continue this family tradition of making stained glass windows and witness the work in process.
Upper and Lower Caravanserais of Sheki (18th century) served as a temporary homes for traders who were passing
by this city which was on one of the silk road routes. Both are huge magnificent structures consisting of more than
300 hundred rooms covering a total area of 6000 (Upper Caravanserai) and 8000 (Lower Caravanserai) square meters.
Church of Kish village (or Church of Saint Elishe in some sources) is an approximately 12th century Caucasian
Albanianchurch located about 5 km away from the city center of Sheki. It was built on a cultic site (found beneath the
altar), whichdates back to approximately 3.000 B.C.
Transfer to Lagodekhi Border.
Explore picturesque and the most fertile part of Georgia - Kakheti, which borders the Great Caucasus range from the north Alazani Valley, summits of which are over 3,000 m. This region is known as a birthplace of viticulture and wine-making. Visit Bodbe Nunnery(9thc), the place where St. Nino, the 4th.c female evangelist of Georgians is buried.
ExploreSighnaghi fortified town famous for its wine and carpet making culture. Enjoy breathtaking views of Kizikhi area and unusual Charm of Sighnaghi Royal Town. Have a walk in narrow streets of the town in shadow of wooden balconies richly decorated with the lace of carved ornaments. Overnight in Sighnaghi.

DAY 7

Sighnaghi – Gremi – Alaverdi – Tsinandali– Tbilisi

We drive to Gremiarchitectural complex of 16th-17th cc. founded by the King of Kakheti Levan. The present complex used to be a citadel and consists of a tower, king's chambers, defensive walls and a central-dome Archangel's church built of square bricks.
In Alazani valley visit elegant 11th c. Alaverdi Cathedral, founded by the Assyrian monk Joseph Alaverdeli, who settled in a former pagan village and converted people to Christianity.
Visit Tsinandali Family Estate and wine cellar, which once belonged to the 19th century aristocratic poet Alexander Chavchavadze. The residence consists of
summer home, garden and winery, featuring several vintages of white wine.
Drive to Tbilisi.

DAY 8

Tbilisi

Here myth and history, culture and traditions, diverse nature and hospitable people; all intermingle with one another, inspired poetry, polyphonic songs and elegant dancing. A blend of cultures, a smell of spices, different nations meeting on street corners, different faiths sharing the same courtyards....This is Tbilisi, the city that has been dominated by traders, warriors, tyrants and dictators in turn. Take a walk around the old town and breathe in the living past. Today Tbilisi is a modern city with well-known museums and theatres, art galleries, churches and archaeological excavations, Sulphur bathhouses, narrow streets with inner courts, surrounded with balconies decorated with laces, which overhang over abysses.
Sights to visit:
-           Metekhi Church of Assumption (13th c.) built by the king DemetreII. Resting upon the top of the hill, the church is a good example of cross-domed Georgian orthodox churches.
-           Georgian Synagogue - Jewish prayer house built from 1895 to 1903.
-           Sioni Cathedral (6th-19th cc.). The cathedral was the seat of the ruling Catholicos-Patriarchs and is commonly referred to as the “Tbilisi Sioni”, following an old Georgian custom of naming churches after places in the Holy Land.
-           Anchiskhati Basilica (6th c.) – the oldest surviving church in Tbilisi.
-           Narikhala Fortress - the main citadel of the city where you can enjoy the wonderful views of Tbilisi.
-           Sulphur Baths - high in sulphurs and other minerals, with a constant temperature of 38C to 40C, the waters have long been used as a therapeutic aid for a range of ailments.
-           Rustaveli Avenue - the central avenue in Tbilisi named after the medieval Georgian poet, Shota Rustaveli.
-           National Museum of Georgia where you can enjoy the permanent exhibition ‘The Archaeological Treasury’.

DAY 9

Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Ananuri – Kazbegi – Gudauri

In the morning we drive to Mtskheta - the ancient capital of Georgia, located at the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers.
Visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Jvari, the 6th century cross-shaped monastery built on the top of a cliff, overlooking the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers. At this place St. Nino, a female evangelist, erected a large wooden cross on the site of a pagan temple; Svetitskhoveli, the fortified cathedral dating from the 11th century. Svetitskhoveli is a sacred place where the Robe of Christ is buried.
Drive along Georgian Military Highway and visit Ananuri Architectural complex-former residence of Dukes of Aragvi region. Complex featuring churches and towers dating back to the XVI-XVII cc. is beautifully overlooking Jinvali reservoir.
Arrive in Kazbegi – a small town with the views of Mt. Kazbek - the seventh highest peak in the Caucasus Mountains. Mt. Kazbek is associated with myth of Prometheus, according to the legend he was chained on the mountain in punishment for having stolen fire from the gods and having given it to mortals. Hike up to XIV c. Gergeti Holy Trinity Church located at an elevation of 2170 m under Mt. Kazbegi. The walk takes approximately 3 hours.

DAY 10

 

 

 

Gudauri – Gori – Uplistsikhe – Tbilisi

Drive to the center of ShidaKartli region - Gori, known as the birthplace of the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Visit Stalin’s Museum in Gori where you can see the house, where Stalin was born and his personal railway carriage.
Visit Uplistsikhe (“Fortress of God”) rock-hewn town (1st Millennium BC). Uplistsikhe is located on the left bank of Mtkvari river and is notable for unique combination of various styles of rock-cut cultures and the co-existence of pagan and Christian architecture. Here you can see ancient wine presses carved in stone. Overnight in Tbilisi.

DAY 11

Tbilisi –Sadakhlo-
Haghpat – Dilijan (Armenia)

 After Breakfast drive to Sadakhlo border to Armenia.
Armenia
ARRIVAL / SADAKHLO/ HAGHPAT/ HAGHARTSIN MONASTERY / DILIJAN
Meet the tourists at Sadakhlo border.
Continue to Lori region for the sightseeing tour to the 10th-13th centuries Haghpat & Sanahin historical and architectural monuments set amidst forest-clad hills close to the town of Alaverdi (178 kilometers from Yerevan). The monuments are preserved by UNESCO and included in the World Heritage List. Continue to Dilijan.
Visit Haghartsin Monastery, which is a 13th-century monastery located near the town of Dilijan in the Tavush Province of Armenia. It was built between the 10th and 14th centuries (in the 12th under Khachatur of Taron); much of it under the patronage of the Bagratuni Dynasty.

DAY 12

DILIJAN- SEVAN- SELIM CARAVANSERAI-GORIS

Continue to Sevan via Selim Pass.
Visit Selim Caravanserai, which is a caravanserai in the Vayots Dzor Province of Armenia. It was built along the Vardenyats Mountain Pass (previously known as the Selim Mountain Pass) in 1332, by prince Chesar Orbelian to accommodate weary travelers and their animals as they crossed from, or into, the mountainous Vayots Dzor region. Located at the southern side of Vardenyats Mountain Pass at a height of 2410 meters above sea level, Orbelian's Caravanserai is the best preserved caravanserai in the entire country. Ruins of a small chapel may still be seen adjacent to the vestibule, across the road from a spring.
Drive to Goris.

DAY 13

GORIS-TATEV MONASTERY- KNDZORESK- GORIS

Drive to Tatev Monastery.
Stop at Halidzor Village to take the longest in the world tramway to the Tatev Monastery.
According to historian Stepanos Orbelian, the first church of what later became the mighty walled complex of Tatev was actually built in the 4th century.
In the 8th century, it was made the throne of the Syunik bishopric and in the 9th century, it expanded, becoming a major feudal power.
Take the longest in the world tramway, newly build in October 2010.
Sightseeing of Khndzoresk cave town. Walk down the gorge to explore the mysterious caverns cut in the face of the rocks by people seeking refuge from persecution in the natural protection of high cliffs.
Visit the hanging bridge.

DAY 14

GORIS- NORAVANK- KHOR VIRAP-YEREVAN

The tour continued to the 12th century monastery complex of Noravank set in a canyon rich with rare flora. Drive to Khor Virap (4th-17th cc), the site of royal prison where St. Gregory the Illuminator was held for thirteen years before converting Armenia into the first Christian nation in 301. Guided by the remote majesty of biblical mount Ararat, we explore the site, its underground chambers, elegant chapels and are captivated by the ascetic atmosphere of the site.
Drive to Yerevan.

DAY 15

YEREVAN  

 

The day starts with a walking tour of Yerevan exploring various layers of its history – medieval shrines hidden behind imposing Soviet-style façades, narrow streets of the old center with sunlight playing on its pink walls,

Blue Mosque, Republic Square, Cascade and Mother Armenia, Opera House and ambitious project of independent Armenia – North Avenue .

Our next stop is Genocide Memorial situated on the hills overlooking the city, a solemn reminder of the
first genocide of the 20th c.

Continue to History Museum. Providing an excellent introduction to the history of the city, the museum is an ideal place to start your exploration of Yerevan, new and old.

Visit Fruit & Veg Market the huge arts & crafts market, the best place in Caucasus to buy souvenirs.
An excursion to Ararat Brandy factory.

DAY 16

YEREVAN- EJMIATSIN- ZVARTOTS-GARNI- GEGHARD- YEREVAN

Drive to Armavir region with the following visits: Echmiadzin– the holy seat of the Supreme Patriarch-
Catholicos of all Armenians. The Cathedral was built in 303 on the site of a pagan temple after the adoption of
Christianity as a state religion in 301.
Visit Hripsime Church (7th century).
A few kilometers from Echmiadzin are the ruins of the 7th century AD Temple of Zvartnots.
Drive to Garni and Geghard.
Here, in the harmony of the relief and the virgin nature you will see the pagan Garni architectural complex of the 1st century and feel the spirit of ancient ages.
Another ten minutes ride through the gorge will take you to the cave monastery of Geghard (12th –13th centuries). Back to Yerevan.

DAY 17

Yerevan – Kiev (Ukraine)

Sightseeing tour around Kyiv (3-hour bus and walking tour around three main historic districts of Kyiv: Starokyivska Hora (Upper Town and the Old Kyiv Hill) where the history of Rus began, Podil (Lower Town) and modern Pechersk. During the tour you will see the monuments listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List – the majestic 11th-century St. Sophia’s Cathedral and the Holy Trinity Church of famous Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (an ancient Kyiv Cave Monastery, the oldest Orthodox monastery of Rus and Ukraine). Kiev

Excursion to the museum-reserve and monastery Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (a walk along the historical district of Lypky: the House of Parliament, Mariyinsky palace (an official residence of the President of Ukraine for ceremonial purposes) and Mariyinsky park, the marvellous panoramic views over the Dnipro river; Khreshchatyk street (the main street of a city with its splendid architecture) and Maydan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square)).

DAY 19

Kiev, flight to Odessa.

DAY 20

Odessa – Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi – Shabo – Odessa, flight to Kyiv.

  1. Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi (one of the oldest cities in the world, located on the Dnister estuary, 100 km from Odessa. This town with the population of 50 thousand people is included by the UNESCO into the list of ten oldest cities in the world that have been preserved along with Rome, Athens and Jerusalem. Modern Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi changed many names during its history: Tiras and Ofius, Ak-Libo and Chetatia-Albe, Meher-Var and Ackerman. All these titles used the word "white", so finally the city was named Bilhorod (“white town”). The walls of the fort, majestically overlooking the Dnister estuary and impressing with its power and inaccessibility, are preserved till present times).

  1. Shabo (visiting the only in Ukraine Wine Culture Center that combines wine production, ancient wine cellars, tasting rooms and the unique Museum of Wine and Winemaking. During an interesting excursion you’ll learn the history of this settlement’s emergence which nowadays successfully continues the traditions of cultural winemaking laid by the Swiss settlers. The tour will be logically completed with tasting the best samples of wine).

DAY 21

Kyiv – Chernihiv – Kyiv  – Chisinau (Moldova)

Breakfast.

  1. Chernihiv (tour around the city that can compete with any other city of Ukraine and even Europe in the number of ancient architectural monuments. Situated on a high bank of the Desna river, Chernihiv was a worthy competitor to Kyiv in political and socio-economic life in the 10th century. The Saviour-Transfiguration Cathedral, the Borys-Hlib Cathedral, St. Elias’ Church, the Assumption Cathedral, Chernihiv Collegium, the Church of Good Friday, Bezimennyi (Nameless) and Hulbyshche (Merry-making) mounds, Anthony caves of St. Trinity Monastery impress with their age and architectural perfection of the era they represent).

Chisinau

During this walking tour guests will see the most popular sights and discover the beauty of this green city.  - Arch of Triumph, - visit to the "Nativity" Central Cathedral and bell tower, - visit to the Park of A. Pushkin (Alley of Moldovan Classics, bust of A. Pushkin, monument to Steven the Great and Saint), - City Hall, - Organ Hall, - Souvenirs' Market, - Presidential Palace, - Parliament building, - House of Government

DAY 23

Chisinau

After breakfast departure to Cricova (40 mins)
Visit of Cricova Winery, the largest wine cellar in Europe. Winery tour + wine tasting. (<2 hrs)
Departure to village Butuceni (40 mins)
Visit of the Orheiul Vechi site and the cave Monastery (UNESCO tentative list -2017), run by on single monk. (<1 hr)
Traditional lunch in a local agropension. Cooking activity: learning how to cook a traditional Moldovan pie – PLACINTA. (<2 hrs)

DAY 24

Chisinau

After breakfast departure to Transnistria region (border crossing) (<1.5 hrs)
Visit of the medieval Bender Fortress. (1 hr)
Lunch in a local restaurant in Tiraspol (not included, to be paid separately, average 20 EUR/pax)
Visit of the city Tiraspol, the capital of the so-called Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic. (<1.5 hrs)
Known by foreign travelers as the museum in the open-air of Communism and Soviet Union, with many Soviet relics on the main streets of its industrial towns and also for being a state that does not exist. No other nation recognizes Transnistria as a country. Guests feel there like being back in the USSR.
Departure to village Bulboaca (40 mins).

Chisinau - Tulcea
(Romania)

After breakfast departure from Chisinau to Tulcea

Lunch on the way to Tulcea, group will make a short stop on the road (not included).
Independent dinner in town (not included, to be paid separately, average 25 EUR/pax). In Tulcea are lots of fish restaurants, walking distance from the hotel guests will be staying.

DAY 26

Boat trip in the Danube Delta, overnight in Tulcea 

After breakfast guests will take part to a organized boat trip in the Danube Delta on the following route: Tulcea – Mile 36 Channel — Sireasa Channel — Sontea Channel — Periteasca Channel — Scaunele: first entrance to Nebunu Lake — Nebunu Lake (strictly protected area by DDBRA) — return, depending on the water level — Northern Sireasa (cormorants reserve) – return on Mile 36 Channel — Tulcea

DAY 27

Tulcea – Bucharest 

Breakfast and departure to Bucharest (3.5 - 4 hr drive)
In the afternoon - Bucharest city tour, personal guide + car (for 3 Hours) a panoramic city tour of Bucharest with the main points of interest: Government Palace, House of Free Press, Revolution Square, and Parliament House  (former Palace of Socialism during Ceausescu’s dictatorship – second biggest building worldwide after the Pentagon), the Patriarchal church, the Old Center etc. Comments: only in the Patriarchal Church we enter inside + plus some other churches/buildings in the Old Center
